Are you a better leader than you were last year?
What are you doing to be a better leader tomorrow?
What would others say are the next steps you need to take to be a “rock solid” leader for them?

It’s interesting to think about. I see the value and a good bit of overlap in the first two areas. In order to ‘get on board’ I think it helps to have the ‘big picture’ and after casting the ‘big picture’ seems to flow well into the ‘get on board’ I see where he’s going though, in trying to separate them as distinct. But I see both as essential.
The third one seems to be more a function of managment then leadership. You need to have ‘get it done’ people on your team, but wonder if it’s closer to management than leadership. Does that make sense?

COMMENT:
I agree that the first two effective uses of power are simular/related - yet also slightly different.
The third use of power does have a strong management “feel” about it. In “The Five Dysfunctions of a Leader” (or Team), Patrick Lencioni writes that one of the main tasks of a leader is to produce sustaining “results” - which possibly relates to “Get-it-Done”… I don’t believe a leader can achieve sustained results if they don’t understand, and use, effective management tools and systems. This is where Leadership blurs with Management - or does it mean that a Leader must also effectively have/use management skills… it gets blurry for me.
Good thoughts.
